Ade Bantu and His BANTU Band Releases “Lagos Barbie” Video: See Images and Video Link

Nigerian musician, Adegoke Odukoya, better known as Ade Bantu and the 12 other members of his BANTU band has released a music video, titled “Lagos Barbie.”

The Nigerian-German, 46, who leads the band, that won a Kora Awards in 2005 for their album, “Fuji-Satisfaction” and also doubles as a social activist as he’s been present in many rallies and social gatherings decrying the poor state of things in Nigeria.

The Wembley-born creator of the monthly concert series and music festival, “Afropolitan Vibes” which holds in Lagos has a knack for producing and singing songs of great quality as he’s known for.

Bantu, who has been a senior figure in the Nigerian music industry is back with another music video of Lagos Barbie which is coming off their “Agberos International” album release.

Lagos Barbie is a song talking about a hair-obsessed lady who inadvertently finds herself travelling through ages in the course of weaving her hair.

The story behind the video which was directed by Bolaji Kekere-Ekun(37th State), produced by Edith Nwekenta and had its Arts directed by Bola Belo with costume styled by Chip Odina and features Nengi Adoki in the lead role alongside other members of the 13-member band was written by Ade Bantu.

According to the band, the stylish chorus of “weave your weaves in the air” adopted by the band is a commentary in the existent and habitual love of Lagos women for hair.

“We are aware of the absurdity of this message, knowing that no serious-minded Lagos big girl who spends a fortune keeping her ‘Barbie’ looks would want to wave it in the air, but we also know that the lyrics are such that will make everyone pause and think ‘hold on, wait a minute. Did I just hear right?’ Ade Bantu said.
