Facebook Launches Food Order And Delivery Services In The US

Facebook has added a new feather to its cap with the creation of an online channel for the ordering and delivery of food to its users in the United States.

Facebook informed it is in partnership with popular and fast-rising restaurants including Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc, Jack in the Box Inc, Five Guys and Papa John’s International Inc.

The company said in a blog post that it has also penned the signature on food ordering services such as EatStreet, Delivery.com, DoorDash, and Olo.

Users will have to through the simple process of clicking on “order food” section on Facebook’s “explore” menu, which will display a list of participating restaurants in that locality through which they can place their order.

Just a year ago, the company said its U.S. users would be able to order food through a restaurants’ Facebook page, a statement they have since delivered justice to with their latest addition.

Facebook’s shares were up nearly 1 percent in early trading on Friday. Shares got through food order and delivery service GrubHub Inc hit the rocks by almost 3%.

GrubHub’s shares had also dropped last month after Amazon Restaurants teamed up with Olo, whose network of restaurants includes Applebee’s and Chipotle.

Amazon had some few months ago launched its online grocery where food materials can be ordered and delivered at doorsteps in a bid to expand their horizon and enhance competition in the online business. Facebook, coming into the fray has provided an inclusive competition for other food delivery and ordering outfits whose stocks are set to increase courtesy of their partnership with the world’s largest connection of people.
