A Magistrates’ court sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital, on Thursday, March 30, granted bail to controversial investigative journalist, Kemi Omolulu Olunloyo.
The Port Harcourt based court also granted bail to Samuel Walson, publisher of a local tabloid in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The online publishers are facing four count charges of publishing defamatory and malicious story against the General Overseer of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie.
Recall that Miss Olunloyo was arrested in Lagos on Tuesday, March 14 and transferred to Port Harcourt prisons on the orders of Pastor David Ibiyeomie.
The controversial journalist revealed then that she was picked up by the police over a post she published alleging that pastor Ibiyeomie was having an affair with Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo and that he gave her the Range Rover she was driving.
In an Instagram post on March 16, Olunloyo wrote, “FFK is my spokesman. All media to contact him. I am in Port Harcourt prison.
“Driven here Tuesday on orders of the IG. David Ibiyeomie of Salvation ministries says I defamed him because I posted a letter a church member sent me alleging corruption and adultery with Iyabo Ojo.
“Both newsmakers will not confirm or deny the allegations. The pen is mightier than the sword.
“I will continue to be the best investigative journalist.”
Meanwhile, the controversial social media commentator was however granted bail today after spending 16 days in prison.
Presiding over the matter on Thursday, the Chief Magistrate, Alatuwo Elkanah Fubara, granted the two accused media practitioners bail in the sum of two hundred thousand Naira with credible sureties who reside in Port Harcourt.
The court also struck out one of the charges on cyber crime against Miss Olunloyo for lack of jurisdiction to try the matter.
The Chief Magistrate, adjourned the matter to May 4 for hearing.
