Former Chief Of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Victor Malu Dies In Cairo

The former chief of Army staff, Lieutenant General Victor Malu has died at a hospital in Cairo.

According to a family source, Mem Adoor, Malu died on Monday morning, two weeks after he traveled to Cairo for a medical check-up.

Malu, who served under former President Olusegun Obasanjo was, until his death, seventy years old.

He was Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) from 1999 to 2001 and Force Commander of the ECOMOG peace-keeping force in Liberia from 1996 to 1998.

Malu was appointed Chief of Army Staff in May 1999 at the start of President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.
