Troops of Headquarters 3 Division Tactical (Sector 2) of the Nigerian Military deployed on the front lines of Operation Lafiya Dole have been told to get set for a final onslaught to clear the crucibles of Boko Haram Terrorists in the Division’s Areas of Responsibility.
This was contained in a message delivered by the Acting General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Benjamin Ahanotu and released by the Deputy of Public Relations of the Nigerian Military, Colonel Kayode Ogunsanya on Ahanotu’s visit to troops of 331 Artillery Regiment, 231 battalion and FOB Buratai respectively in commemoration of Nigeria’s 57 independence Anniversary Celebration.
In his address, the Ag GOC was full of praises for the troops for being steadfast and encouraged them to remain patriotic to the service, stressing that the troops’ welfare remains his priority. He further admitted that the marshy nature of the terrain due to the raining season has caused troops to temporarily stop some operational activities.
He called on the troops to remain alert and be very conscious as well as seize the advantage of the period to put their body and minds in shape in order to be physically and mentally ready for the final onslaught to clear the Insurgents off their hideouts when the terrain becomes a suitable one.
The Ag GOC, in addition, said that the government was ready to give its support to the Nigerian Military with all it takes to put an end to criminal and dastardly activities of the insurgents.
On arrival, the Ag GOC was received by the Commanding Officer 331 Artillery Regiment, Lt Col MY Mohammed and Commanding Officer 231 Battalion , Lt Col MS Sule in Buratai where he addressed troops of the FOB and later to Abogo Lergama Military Cantonment Biu where he inspected and went round a quarter guard before addressing troops of 331 Artillery Regiment and 231 bn.
While in Biu, the Ag GOC also paid a courtesy call on the Emir of Biu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Umar Mustapha Aliyu. Just before the visit, he had checked through facilities at the ongoing Nigerian Army Counter Terrorist and Insurgency Museum located in Buratai.
The Ag GOC was accompanied during the visit by the Comd 53 Signal Bde Brigadier General GS Abdulahi, Comd 3 Provost Group Colonel SN Eze and DCOS G3 Colonel AGL Haruna.
Officers of the Nigerian Military from Operation Lafiya Dole have been at the forefront of maintenance of peace in Borno State and have decimated the insurgents to a very minimal level. It is however expected that they will wrap it up with a total clearance of the remaining elements of the Boko Haram insurgents when the battleground gets ready for its cause.
